Changing WordPress Permalinks

Ok so your website has ugly URLS something like this: www.example.com/?p=43
These type of links are generally frowned upon by all web developers and designers, why have them?
The good thing about WordPress is they make it so easy for you to change these there is no reason not to.

Step 1

Login to the admin panel and navigate to settings > Permalinks

Step 2

Click on the ‘Custom Structure’, fill in the structure you want. The structure I usually use (other then this blog) is just

/%postname%/

This will just show the post title at the end of a url like:
www.example.com/my-post
I find this is the most search engine friendly way and it also allows you to include keywords into the URL. For a full list of the different URL structures visit the WordPress codex.
